quarter 2010, McDonald’s Japan (a 50%-owned affiliate)
announced plans to close approximately 430 restaurants by mid-2011
in conjunction with the strategic review of the market’s
restaurant portfolio. These actions are designed to enhance the
brand image, overall profitability and returns of the market. For
the nine months 2010, the Company recorded after tax impairment
charges of $36.8 million related to its share of restaurant closing
costs in Japan. These charges primarily consist of asset writeoffs
and lease termination costs.</font></p>
