# beatandraise.com SEC Filings API > The SEC EDGAR archive (every filing since 1993, about 18.8 million) and structured data built on it: documents as text, 10-K/10-Q/8-K Items, XBRL financial statements, insider transactions, 13F holders, shares outstanding, every field of every SEC XML form, and tools to verify figures and quotes against the filing. Base URL: https://beatandraise.com/api/v1. Authenticate with `X-API-Key: ` or `Authorization: Bearer `; create a free key at https://beatandraise.com/api-keys. Free plan: 100 successful requests, 10 a second. Pro: unlimited requests, 20 a second (https://beatandraise.com/sec-filings-api#plans). ## How to use it well - Find a company's CIK first: GET /company/search?q=apple. Send CIKs with or without leading zeros. - For one section of a 10-K, 10-Q or 8-K (Risk Factors, MD&A, Item 2.02) use /items, not the whole document: it is a fraction of the size and is never the table of contents. - Before stating a figure from a filing, check it with /document/verify-figure (digits are compared however they are written: "$416.2 billion" matches 416,161 in millions); before quoting text, /document/verify. Cite the highlight_url they return: it opens the filing with those exact characters marked. - To check a whole draft: put [ref:] after each figure (refs come from /document/figures and verify-figure), [calc: ref:a, ref:b] after a computed one, and POST it to /check-citations. Present its linked_text; a citation that fails is marked unverified. - Every result drawn from a filing carries a source object (sec_url, filing_index_url, beatandraise_url, citation). Cite those links, not your memory. - Data is as filed: values, form types and categories are the SEC's own. Share counts are never split-adjusted; 13F values are in the filer's unit; report each share class on its own. - Errors are JSON {"error": "", "message": "..."}. 401: get a key at https://beatandraise.com/api-keys. 402: the free plan's calls are used. 429: wait Retry-After seconds. A non-2xx response does not use a free call. ## Filings - GET /filings: List filings by company, form and date - GET /filing/{accession}: One filing: metadata and every file - GET /filing/{accession}/tables: The XBRL financial-table pages of a filing - GET /files/{accession}: The files a filing lists, with download links - GET /files/{accession}/{filename}: Download one file exactly as stored - GET /search: Full-text search across filings ## Documents - GET /document/{cik}/{accession}/{filename}: A document as markdown or HTML - GET /items/{accession}: The Items of a 10-K, 10-Q or 8-K - GET /items/{accession}/{item}: One Item of a 10-K, 10-Q or 8-K - GET /document/search/{cik}/{accession}: Search inside a filing - GET /document/search/{cik}/{accession}/{filename}: Search inside one document ## Structured data - GET /form-data: Every filing of an XML form, every field - GET /statements/{cik}/{accession}: Financial statements of one 10-K or 10-Q - GET /financial-history: Statements from a company's last several reports - GET /get-statements: Experimental: a statement period by period - GET /insider-transactions: Form 4 insider transactions - GET /insiders: In development: insider trading totals - GET /shares-outstanding: Shares outstanding over time, and splits - GET /holdings/{cik}: A 13F manager's positions - GET /institutional-holders/{company}: Who holds a company (13F) - GET /company/search: Find a company by name or ticker - GET /company/{cik}: A company: names, tickers, industry - GET /sic: SIC industry codes and their companies ## Checking figures and quotes - GET /document/verify/{cik}/{accession}/{filename}: Is this sentence or figure in the document? - GET /document/verify-figure/{cik}/{accession}: Is this number in the filing, however written? - GET /document/verify-figure/{cik}/{accession}/{filename}: As above, in one document - GET /document/figures/{cik}/{accession}/{filename}: Every number in a document, with its label - POST /check-citations: Check every cited number in a draft ## Account - GET /account: Your plan, limits and usage this month - GET /status: Service status ## Docs - [Every endpoint in full, with parameters and example responses](https://beatandraise.com/llms-full.txt) - [OpenAPI 3.1 specification](https://beatandraise.com/api/v1/openapi.json): import into an agent, Postman or a client generator - [Try it in the browser](https://beatandraise.com/public-api/try) - [Documentation](https://beatandraise.com/public-api): field-by-field pages for every SEC XML form and the Items of 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K ## Optional - [MCP server](https://beatandraise.com/mcp): the same data as tools for Claude, ChatGPT and Codex, no code - [Plans and terms](https://beatandraise.com/sec-filings-api#plans)
